I have a Ph.D. degree in High Temperature Fuel Cell Systems, and I work at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, Germany. My research subject is the Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) and my work involves the realization of a 20kW SOFC system and modeling of future fuel cell systems. For those who doesn't know what fuel cells are, they are energy conversion devices which transform chemical into electricity. They are very similar to batteries but instead of having the chemical build within the same casing, chemical are separately and continuously supplied to the cell. The fuel cell will keep on delivering electricity for so as long as you keep on supplying fuel to the fuel cell. The most appealing advantage of fuel cell is still its high efficiency and therefore it is relatively friendly for the environmental compared to combustion engines/gas-turbines and steam-cycles. |
